How it started
Mezon started with me. I'm into sport, and at some point I got myself into an adventure called “counting calories” xD And I pulled it off: I went from 112 to 98 kg, and what came off was fat. A special thank you for that goes to dietitian Antoniy Malkov. Popular trackers don't know how many calories are in plov, and they don't speak Uzbek. Mezon knows, and it speaks.
I trained on programs by Abdulla Jabborov, a natural bodybuilder and blogger with a big audience in Uzbekistan: I watched his breakdowns and repeated them in the gym, without ever having met him. I went the whole way on his approach: counted calories, lost the fat, got my protein up to where it needed to be and graduated to the “building muscle” stage. I logged my workouts in an app with such good UX that I almost fell in love with it. That UX is what showed me what Mezon should be.
That whole training routine held up right until the day Claude Code came into my life xD On the upside, there was time for product. I decided to meet Abdulla and pitch him a venture. We met and talked: he told me about his side, I told him about mine. His domain plus my practice, and a strong product came together very fast.
Right now Mezon is waiting for App Store review. No ads, we did nothing at all, and there are already 126 users on Google Play. I think that's Abdulla showing the app on his Instagram from time to time :) Coaches get a workspace in Mezon where they can see all their clients. Product, design, the app, the backend and the servers are on me, with headroom from day one: a load test, zero-downtime deploys, hourly backups.
What I did
- Expo app: an offline diary with safe retries, adaptive goals, search that understands both Latin and Cyrillic, a barcode scanner, steps from HealthKit, a catalog of 22,650 foods
- AI label scanner: Gemini reads the label on the package, the answer is checked against a schema, the photo is deleted, manual entry if something goes wrong, a daily limit
- AI assistant: Gemini with Claude as a backup, a 25-second budget, and a run through 24 control questions before every change
- Coach mode: a workspace, recommended targets and alerts about clients
- Backend on Fastify, Drizzle and PostgreSQL, a React admin with retention and cohort metrics, a landing page on Astro
- Subscriptions through Payme and Multicard, a 15-day free trial
- Load testing, zero-downtime deploys, hourly encrypted backups to Cloudflare R2 with restore checks, Sentry and AppMetrica
